Why I'll Just be Me 2017 and Beyond!

I suck at New Year's Resolutions. Probably because life has a way of making everything harder when you confine yourself into a set amount of time (I was obviously a procrastinator in school) or maybe because I was looking at them the wrong way. Resolutions set you up for disappointment when they aren't accomplished, and heck, nobody likes to be disappointed. Therefore I wrote out goals: immediate, short-term, and long term. I write down everything. If I don't, the hustle and bustle within my mind would surely forget my daily to-do list by the end of the day, so I know it would forget long-term goals. When I write down my goals, I often preface it with a "mini personal statement" and ask my self these questions:

  1. What do I want to accomplish?
  2. Why do I want to accomplish these things?
  3. Have I done anything towards working on these goals before?
  4. What do I need to heal, augment, and transform in order for these goals to be accomplished?

They are four simple questions with enough depth to force you to not only think about what you want to do in life, but how you have managed to do any of these things thus far. I love to hold myself up to high standards; I believe everyone should in order to stretch and recreate ourselves. That's the awesome part about a New Year. It offers us a time and space to figure out how we want to move forward in life; what new standards will we hold ourselves up to? I would encourage you to write down these four questions and answer them when you feel comfortable. They can be very uncomfortable questions.

It's ok if you're starting over, healing, letting go, or hustling harder. As long as you're busting your balls to be great and refine yourself for good; do what needs to be done and don't care about what ANYONE else thinks. The best advice my mom ever gave me was to be myself and trust in my journey. I encourage you to do the same! Let's redefine ourselves; learning from past lessons, love, and blessings. As Buzz Light Year would probably post as his Instagram caption: To 2017 and Beyond!
