Antcipating Takeoff: Astronauts and Fur Coats

Self-care's many identities are endless. Your self-care may be binge watching Insecure, detox baths, dancing, or buying bundles of Brazilian curly hair (who got a uncle who don't mind giving out bundle money in exchange for hand-written letters tho...). All of our many methods of self-care are apart of our arsenal to heal our mind, body, and spirit so we can allow our light to warm dark places!

As the Self-Love Series nears, I often think about my arsenal, my self-care tools and tricks that have transformed my life, and I realize self-expression is my foundational form of self-care. As a child I remember taking towels and imagining them into gowns and suits. As I got older, I cared less about name-brands, although I adored New York Fashion Week. Being able to merge vintage finds with modern trends became an antidote for my low self-esteem, insecurities, and desire to "fit in". As banal as clothing has become for us in 1st world countries, we must not forget the power of self-expression, the opportunity to communicate who we are through tangible items. It's amazing.

Sometimes the right heels can land you your dream job, or those leggings that "make yo booty look good" may lessen your anxiety in social settings. Now, I'm not saying we should clad ourselves in clothing that appease societal expectations or quell other people's perceptions of what you should look like... No. How you dress should make you feel good, make you feel confident, and make you feel like you can conquer any fears or doubts you may have.

I think I subconsciously desired this outfit. A love-child of astronaut and extra. I wanted to remind myself that I'm excited, I'm nervous, I'm ready to launch into the Self-Love Series in February. My desire for childish warmth and vibrancy against the stark canvas of white snow demanded fur and color. Plus it hardly snows and I wanted to wear all of my favorite winter pieces at once. Voila! You got a sassy, confident, playa' astronaut ready to take you on a journey of self-love, self-worth, and light.

So here, I give myself in love and fun, fear and confidence to remind you that you have all the tools to overcome anything in your life. Your passions, past-times, and self-care indulgences aren't gratuitous, they're necessary to heal, love, and bring light to your being. They may be the very things that launch you into your purpose!
