Happy 5th of July!

I remember the first time I listened to"To be Young, Gifted, and Black" by Donny Hathaway, we were driving and my Sissy (sister) said "Listen to this, I love the organ in the beginning, its just like church". Since that day Donny Hathaway's rendition of Nina Simone's homage to black youth has reminded me of my power as a black woman and the power of speaking positivity into your life. As I was planning my outfit for this 5th of July post I began to think about Philando Castile and having recently read "To Be Young, Gifted, and Black"; I realized being positive and finding inspiration in the midst of life's pain are necessary skills to fill the world with your love and light.

Your perspective matters, the murals on the walls matter, the music you surround yourself with matter. The people too! The hard part is being willing to choose positivity, even in them midst of a trial or tribulation. That's where inspiration comes to the rescue!

When we find inspiration in the world around, in ourselves, in others, in God, we are instilled with a sense of hope, of positivity. That's why its paramount that we live a life that lends itself to inspiration, and artistry tends to get the job done for us humans. Art museums can uplift moods, music can save a life, a nice outfit can make you feel better, feel like you.

I think that's worth celebrating like a holiday. Happy 5th of July! May you continuously find postivity and surround yourself with inspiration.
